Get to know the Silver Fir better

During your hike through the forest or while viewing some of the application examples, t-guide will give you more details about the Silver Fir.  In German, the Silver Fir is often referred to as the Regal Fir or Kingly Tree.

Queen of the Woods

The Silver Fir grows up to a height of 65 meters. The Queen of the Woods requires nature oriented forestry. Obsolescence and the resulting destabilisation of the forests can be prevented by sustained utilization of the tree.

Tree of the year

The Silver Fir stands for true to nature, sustainable forest management. It is the tallest tree in Europe. The Silver Fir is the tree with the strongest decline in population during the last 200 years.

Characteristics

The distinguishing characteristics of the Silver Fir are the special fir tree needle aroma as well as the upright standing pine cones, from which the winged seeds free themselves in autumn.

Exotic Wood

A distinguishing characteristic of Silver Fir, is its timeless, exotic and modern appearance. It is free of resin and is suited for interior fittings. Right now, about 25,000 solid cubic meters of Silver Fir timber is being produced. Special techniques are used for processing the wood.

Ecology

A unique ecological characteristic of the Silver Fir is its excellent tolerance for shade. Continuous utilization of the Silver Fir will prevent our forests from becoming too old.
