General Info

The architects, Andreas Cukrowicz and Anton Nachbaur-Sturm planned and supervised the construction of the building. They won a contest put out by the town of Hittisau, as the awarding authority, for the planning of the building, and later were also awarded the architecture prize.

The three storey building is home to numerous functions. The Fire Station is in the lower level of the building, while the ground floor houses a music practice room and a seminar room. On the top floor we find the Women‘s Museum. The whole building is equipped with a ventilation system which can be regulated. It is heated by a nearby bio-mass heating station. Right from the beginning it was very important for the township of Hittisau to use wood as a construction material and short transport distances in the sense of adding value to the region and employing local craftsmen. This is why the decision was made to use the Silver Fir. The appealing look of the Silver Fir was also a deciding factor for the architects. More on that in the following statements.
